I walked into the living room the other day and saw my lady sitting on the couch.
"I love you honey," I said.
"I love you too," she said.
"You know babe," I said, "you're my little chocolate easter bunny. But you're too pretty to eat up. So I keep you around to look at and every now and then I give you a lick to remind me of how sweet you are."
See that? Do you recognize the art in that? I've taken an intangible quality, her "sweetness," and incorporated it into a metaphor in which this intangible quality is given a tangible and physical manifestation, "chocolate." Then I take what could be construed as a lewd act, "to lick someone," and incorporated it as a sweet and child-like gesture in the extended metaphor. However, the double entendre can't be missed. Telling her that she is a piece of candy too pretty to eat, but sweet enough to lick, ought to make her blush. My girl did. Also, I could have made it any piece of candy, but I chose what is traditionally portrayed as a soft bunny, holding a basket, and wearing a bow. I knew that she would find this to be especially cute. So there you have it. Three qualities of a great "adorable boyfriend" turn of phrase are all present here: cuteness, kindness, and sexual double entendre. I'll have more for you soon...
